Martha High, “The Goddess of Soul”
Comenzó en la música en el grupo de r&b The Jewels, producidas por Bo Diddley prmiero y luego por el mismísimo James Brown  con quién se fueron de gira ya en 1964. Martha continúo cantando con James Brown durante los siguientes 30 años. Entre sus apariciones con Brown destacan sus conciertos en Boston, tras la muerte de Luther King (1968) o Vietnam, el dueto «Summertime» y es parte, junto con Sugar Pie de Santo, Yvonne Fair, Lynn Collins y otras diosas del álbum JB’s Original Funky Divas.

High también grabó un álbum disco homónimo en 1979, lanzado en Salsoul Records. En enero de 2000 dejó de actuar con Brown y se fue de gira con Maceo Parker con quien ha actuado durante casi dos décadas.

En 2004, High se asoció con la organización Soulpower, que también está detrás de los regresos de artistas de Soul como Marva Whitney, Lyn Collins, Bobby Byrd, Gwen McCrae y RAMP. Durante su colaboración con Soulpower, High actuó en toda Europa e incluso en África, respaldada por Soulpower Allstars. En febrero de 2005, High se embarcó en el «James Brown’s Funky Divas Tour» en Europa, compartiendo escenario con su amiga Lyn Collins.

En los últimos años High ha actuado y grabado con bandas de la talla de Speedometer, Osaka Monaurail o Soul Cookers, además de editar discos para sellos como Blind Faith, Enlace Funk ó Record kicks.

A lo largo de su carrera, esta Goddess of Soul ha compartido escenario con icónicos artistas como LIttel Richard, The Temptations, Aretha Franklin, BB King, Stevie Wonder Pince, Michael Jackson a George Clinton.

Martha High, ‘The Goddess of Soul’.
She began her musical career in the R&B group The Jewels, produced firstly by Bo Diddley and then by James Brown himself, with whom they toured in 1964. Martha continued singing with James Brown for the next 30 years. Among her appearances with Brown, her concerts in Boston after the death of Luther King (1968) and Vietnam, the duet ‘Summertime’ stand out. She is also part of the album JB’s Original Funky Divas, along with Sugar Pie de Santo, Yvonne Fair, Lynn Collins and other goddesses.

High also recorded a self-titled disco album in 1979, released on Salsoul Records. In January 2000, she stopped performing with Brown and went on tour with Maceo Parker, with whom she has performed for almost two decades.

In 2004, High partnered with the Soulpower organisation, which is also behind the comebacks of soul artists such as Marva Whitney, Lyn Collins, Bobby Byrd, Gwen McCrae and RAMP. During her collaboration with Soulpower, High performed throughout Europe and even in Africa, backed by the Soulpower Allstars. In February 2005, High embarked on the ‘James Brown’s Funky Divas Tour’ in Europe, sharing the stage with her friend Lyn Collins.

In recent years, High has performed and recorded with bands such as Speedometer, Osaka Monaurail and Soul Cookers, as well as releasing records on labels such as Blind Faith, Enlace Funk and Record Kicks.

Throughout her career, this Goddess of Soul has shared the stage with iconic artists such as Little Richard, The Temptations, Aretha Franklin, BB King, Stevie Wonder Prince, Michael Jackson and George Clinton.
