Stone Foundation cumplen 25 años sobre los escenarios de medio mundo y se vienen a celebrarlo al Ye-Yé. El ochote soul está a punto de lanzar su décimo álbum de estudio ‘Outside Looking In’, grabado en el estudio de Paul Weller como en anteriores ocasiones. El mismo Modfather ha grabado coros e interpretado en él, pero no es la única colaboración de los británicos ni en este disco ni en los anteriores. La lista es interminable: Bettye Lavette, Joe Harris (Undisputed Truth), Graham Parker, William Bell, Laville… En 2014 vinieron por primera vez a España con el tristemente fallecido hace muy poco Nolan Porter a actuar en el Ye-Yé en nuestro vigésimo aniversario. Elegantes, soulful, bailables. Piel de gallina amigos.

Stone Foundation celebrates their 25th anniversary performing the stages and clubs of half the world and they are coming to celebrate it with us at Ye-Yé.The 8 piece soul band is about to release its tenth studio album ‘Outside Looking In’, recorded at Paul Weller’s studio as on previous occasions. The Modfather himself has recorded vocals and performed on it, but it is not the only collaboration of the British on this album or on previous ones. The list is endless: Bettye Lavette, Joe Harris (Undisputed Truth), Graham Parker, William Bell, Laville… In 2014 they came to Spain for the first time with the sadly late Nolan Porter to perform at Ye-Yé on our twentieth anniversary. Apuntando para el lanzamiento de su décimo álbum de estudio con ‘Outside Looking In’, que llega el 25 de marzo de 2022 a través de 100 Percent Records, el ochote Soul con sede en las Midlands inglesas, Stone Foundation, continúa en plena forma. Sus últimos tres álbumes llegaron al Top 40 y parece seguro  que ‘Outside Looking In’ se colará también. El álbum está disponible en digital y en una variedad de formatos físicos: CD / 2CD / LP / LP (Rosa) / LP (Amarillo).

A lo largo de sus casi 25 años juntos, la banda siempre ha sido reconocida por su espíritu colaborativo y su enfoque inclusivo. ‘Outside Looking In’ es fiel a eso. Grabado (como siempre) en el Black Barn Studio de Paul Weller, y con el propio Paul haciendo algunos coros y contribuciones instrumentales, el álbum también cuenta con la voz principal invitada de la legendaria diva disco Melba Moore en ‘Now That You Want Me Back’. El álbum también cuenta con colaboraciones de Sulene Fleming, Laville, Sheree Dubois y Graziella Affinita; Si bien Stone Foundation siempre aporta un enfoque nuevo y fresco a cada disco, y un punto de contraste con lo que vino antes, algunas cosas simplemente no necesitan modificarse.

Neil Sheasby dijo: “Al crear música, el objetivo siempre es recrear el sonido que estás imaginando en tu cabeza, a veces se puede lograr, a veces te quedas corto. Con este disco, creo que es lo más cerca que hemos estado de darnos cuenta de lo que nos propusimos lograr. Era importante esforzarnos y no quedar atrapados en un callejón sin salida musical de complacencia, tenía que sonar fresco y un salto hacia un territorio desconocido. Creo que las canciones reflejan eso”.

Neil Jones agregó: “Creo que este es uno de nuestros discos más optimistas y estimulantes hasta la fecha. Todos hemos experimentado muchas sensaciones negativas en los últimos años y fue muy importante para nosotros mientras escribíamos este disco no detenernos en el pasado, sino mirar hacia el futuro y todas las increíbles posibilidades que tenemos por delante. Musical y líricamente se siente completamente fresco y emocionante, como un nuevo capítulo en nuestra historia en constante evolución”.

Este lanzamiento se siente como otro gran paso adelante para esta banda en constante evolución. En el camino siempre han creado su propio surco y se han buscado su propia suerte. Sin embargo, han disfrutado del apoyo nacional de BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio 2, críticas entusiastas en una gran variedad de publicaciones, tocaron en Glastonbury y llenaron en el Shepherd’s Bush Empire y el Electric Ballroom de Londres. El título del álbum ‘Outside Looking In’ refleja el hecho de que están asentados, pero nunca acomodados, Stone Foundation puede tener diez álbumes de estudio, pero aún parece subestimado. Simplemente no apuestes contra ellos…

Notching up their tenth studio album release with ‘Outside Looking In’, which lands on 25th March 2022 through 100 Percent Records, the 8-piece Midlands-based Soul band Stone Foundation continue their rich vein of form.  Their last three albums all charted within the Top 40 and ‘Outside Looking In’ seems certain to repeat the trick. The album is available digitally and on a range of physical formats: CD / 2CD / LP / LP (Pink) / LP (Yellow).

Throughout their nearly 25 years together, the band have always been known for their collaborative spirit and inclusive approach. ‘Outside Looking In’ is true to that.  Recorded (as always) at Paul Weller’s Black Barn Studio, and featuring the man himself with a few Backing Vocals and instrumental contributions, the album also features a knockout guest lead vocal from legendary disco diva Melba Moore on ‘Now That You Want Me Back’. The album also boasts slots from Sulene Fleming, Laville, Sheree Dubois and Graziella Affinita; whilst Stone Foundation always bring a fresh new approach to each record, and a point of contrast to what came before, some things just do not need to be altered.

Neil Sheasby said, “When creating music the goal is always to recreate the sound you’re imagining in your head, sometimes it’s achievable, sometimes you fall short. With this record I believe it’s the closest we have come to realising what we set out to achieve. It was important to push ourselves and not get caught up in a musical cul-de-sac of complacency, it had to sound fresh and a leap forward into uncharted territory. I think the songs reflect that.”

Neil Jones added, “I think this is one of our most optimistic and uplifting records to date. We’ve all experienced so many negative things over the past few years and it was really important for us whilst writing this record to not dwell on the past but instead look forward to the future and all the amazing possibilities that lie ahead for everyone. Musically and lyrically it feels completely fresh and exciting, like a brand new chapter in our ever evolving story.”

This release feels like yet another big step forward for this constantly evolving band. Along the way they have always ploughed their own furrow and made their own luck. Yet they have enjoyed national airplay from BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio 2, rave reviews from a huge range of publications, played Glastonbury and sold out headline shows at London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire and the Electric Ballroom. The album title ‘Outside Looking In’ reflects the fact that they are established, but never the establishment, Stone Foundation may be ten studio albums in, but still feel like the underdog. Just don’t bet against them…
